OMG BOSTON WHY MUST YOU BE SO WEIRD

I was all set to go to City Hall for Jail Day. I walked fifteen minutes in the rain, only to find that no one was there and it was postponed. Luckily, Katie was there to give me and Jason a ride back to her house. We had Toaster Strudels and dissolved Katie's pills in water/ saliva/ colored glue/ salt/ various other household items.

The Murphys show is also rained out, which means I'll have to hang out at my sister's party; Rony'll be there, though, and we can be cool upperclassmen/college people together. xD

But THIS WAS FUCKING AWESOME. Jawsome.

Today we had a debate in history about whether the American Revolution was a conservative or a radical event. My group seriously thought we'd own the "conservative" side, but they did pretty well. Milne and his sidemouth -- and his knee-jerk liberalism -- are really getting annoying. Bowfly is twenty thousand times cooler.

Health isn't so bad now that I've made a friend. Nishat's in my history and English classes, and together we talk about No Doubt's coolness and how awesome Bowfly is. Seriously, he's the new Streff.

Tomorrow, after babysitting, is Jail Day. It will be a party. Then I've got the FREE MURPHYS SHOW to look forward to. :DD

I hate fitness and health. So much busy work and nonsense. The only reason health class exists is because parents are too lazy and/or shy to teach their own children about safe sex, good eating habits and peer pressure. Christ.

There are two things that make me happy:

1) a trip to Fenway park, and
2) the MHS band.

We're all so crazy and loud and (most of all) poor -- no, really, no one spends money on us -- but we manage to get by and play some pretty goddamn good music while we're at it. Today, I was pleased to find that Joey Brock (ghettoXcore) signed up and that RONY CAME BACK! He hung out with us while Hads taught us (mostly just the freshmen) how to march. I asked him how school was and if he'd met any girls, and he replied that it was good and no, he hadn't. (Well, he's got a little "I LUV RONY OMFG" clique back here so I don't think he'll be left without. :P) Aw, but it was so good seeing him again.

The cheerleaders took over the cages again, even though we had explicit permission to use them, so we had to go out to the parking lot. It was good times until Belson came out and informed us that the people next door (at the temple) were celebrating Rosh Hashanah and that we had to go inside. Bummer.

Matt: "Rony, you stole my dance... Whitey!" Oh, Christ. XDD

And a happy Rosh to my Jewbuddies. :D

If I let this go, you can't tell nobody -- I'm talking 'bout nobody. Are you responsible? Boy, I gotta watch my back 'cause I'm not just anybody. Is it my go; is it your go? Sometimes I'm goody-goody; right now I'm naughty-naughty. Say yes or say no, 'cause I really need somebody -- tell me you're that somebody.

I've just rediscovered Aaliyah -- yeah, I know, it's been three years, but I've just gotten over my OMGWTF RAP SUXZ phase, which was complete bullshit.

So I'm going to Monster Jam with Alyse, Brinna, Ash and Sam. It'll be cool anyway, but I'm hoping Kanye West will be on the lineup -- that'd make it awesome. But Juvenile should be good. And I get to hear Petey Pablo do a nice rendition of "Freek-a-Leek" (lmao@every one of my cousins who came to Boston over the summer).

I'm psychotic. Seriously, I am. Still, don't go giving me any assault rifles anytime soon.

I need a trip to the DR. God, will you send me some plane tickets?

Wow, today is just Guilty Pleasure Day or something.

Today was also Davis Square With Mark Day. We, well, went to Davis and bowled for a little while; God, he smoked me. At first I played it off like I was just letting him win, but I really sucked -- it was sort of sad. In the end he won, 50-something to 30-something, and we also got to see the old people be all hotshots and such at the game. We also tried to be rebels and run out without paying, but the guy at the counter saw us before we could do anything. Oh, well.

Some parts of Davis Square also smell like the subway -- it's really nice.

After bowling, we went to Disc Diggers. Oh my God, I've found heaven. I got a Fiona Apple CD and The A-Teens' (!) first album, the one with the ABBA covers. It's really good, I think :P -- but Mark was deathly afraid of it. Hah.

Later we walked, made plans for next time, and sat outside of Jwhatever Scoops' to people-watch. He is an odd child and so am I, and together we made... a pair of odd children. But cool. No burritos, but it was good times.

"By football, do you mean American football?" Oh, goodness. :D

I have a secret love for that song, as well as the Starting Line cover. But that's the first and last time I'll admit that I like a Jennifer Lopez song.

Yesterday was Val's party. Jawsome, man -- we hung out with her family and made friends with her cousin Patrick, fed her bunny, ate food, watched a cake fight (LORD OF THE RINGS CAKE OMG), and played a game of Hide and Go Seek in the dark, for starters. Val loved the Michael Jackson card I gave her and the CDs -- burnt Maroon 5, Rock Against Bush and an Elton John tape (hold me closer, Tony Danza). Sarah's present -- Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them and TTYL -- was really cool, too. After cake and ice cream (Sarah and Lindsay ate all the cherries; they're getting cancer) we watched The Others and made fun of Nicole Kidman. We were there till about 9, then Tim, Sarah, and I were chauffeured home by my mom. Good times, good times.

[ music | Wu-Tang Clan, "Protect Ya Neck" ]

And boy, did I have a hangover.

So today, kids, was Lucía's first day of school.

It went better than expected -- much better, actually -- though by the end of the day I just wanted to get the hell out of there. But for everyone who's interested, here's the synopsis:

Morning: The day started with me rolling out of bed at 5:40am after roughly five hours of sleep -- I finished the history, thank Fred -- and wandering into the bathroom, where my sister was washing her face. It was her first day of high school, bless her soul, and she wanted like crazy to look good for the upperclassmen. So I showered and washed my hair, then dressed and made sure I smelled good. (It's a wonder what Mark brand body lotion does for the skin.) After I was sure I looked hot, I went downstairs and breakfasted with the sibs. Brinna and her dad rolled up to my house at 7:05 and we were on our way.

Beginning of the day: Homeroom. Emergency forms. Plenty of ethnicity bubbles to fill in, which did not make for a happy Lucía. But there's a new girl, Danielle, and she seems pretty cool. There was also an assembly. Assemblies = lame; I could've used that hour or so to sleep in.

Where the fun begins: My first class was pre-cal with Mrs. Neylon. She seems like a carbon copy of Mrs. Marotta, the easiest math teacher I've had yet. The best part about math is that ERIC CHRISTIANSEN sits in front of me diagonally; there will be much nonsensical babble going on between the two of us.

Spanish was next; Mrs. Lepore is crazy, really -- she brought out a little stuffed MHS bear and had it talk to us in Spanish. But I get the feeling I'll learn a lot in that class, given what went down in the 40-ish minutes we were there. John Valdez is in Spanish with me, much to my surprise -- I thought he was perfectly fluent. But he's cool, so no complaints.

History. Oh, how I love thee. At the meeting with Milne, he made his class out to be this gigantic monster that most of us couldn't face without ending up on life support. Surprise, surprise -- he was a cool guy on our first day. Milne explained the rules -- the only thing he's really anal about is cheating, but he's got a good reason to be -- and made sure that we were all smiling. He also played a Dylan song, which made me very happy (I get the feeling there will be much good music in his class). And I get to sit next to Shawn and near Sam. Cool guys.

English with Bowfly was fourth. He's an awesome guy, really, he just tends to assign more books than we can possibly read. Which really isn't a bad thing, seeing as how 99% of his books are ones I end up liking. I want to be an English teacher so I have an excuse to read good books. Naturally, he gave a test right after he took attendance -- silly Bowfly.

Wadness's physics class was cool, too -- he's really friendly and funny in that science teacher sort of way, which is never a bad thing. The actual physics itself seems pretty interesting, too. Eric is, once again, in my class -- I get the feeling periods 1 and 5 will just be silliness. Emily Scire is also gracing me with her presence! Oh, Em, you're awesome. Like your last name.

Guidance last period. By this time my brain was screaming, "Let me go home!" Mrs. Davis is cool -- she's friendly and I'd much rather go to her with my problems than to the Wendinator, though I'm not sure she'd listen -- but by then I was about to fall asleep and certainly not in the mood for joking around with CJ and the Guidance Gang. Instead, I counted down the seconds till school let out and ran out of there when the bell rang.

Now: I need a nap.

Today's the last day of summer. Where did my vacation go?

...Oh, yeah, I spent it all on job hunting, frisbee games, spraying Axe in CVS, Gobstoppers, Lava Lava Island, bus rides to Harvard and Davis, beach balls, college kid idolization, Streff sightings, Sox/Yankees brawls, letters to Kath, being waved at by strange people, trying new things, dancing in parking lots during thunderstorms, 4th of July parties, California cousins, boy hunting, boy snagging, bike rides, strolls through the cemetary, smoothies, Mexican food, procrastination, dumping vegetarianism, late-night chats, and many good movies. No wonder I'm always broke.

I've got 9 hours to finish this AP work.

[ music | Jurassic 5, "Turning It Out" ]

Okay, so I've been attempting to work this out in my head but I can't come to any reasonable conclusion. Plus I'm in the middle of some serious procrastination.

So if you're Arabic, what race are you?

To phrase it better, what little bubble on the SATs or MCAS or what have you would someone from the Middle East fill in? I originally thought the Asian/Pacific Islander label might apply -- but it makes no sense because Asians are typically thought of as from the Far East (i.e. Japan, Cambodia, Korea, China, etc.). And besides, wouldn't that qualify someone from Russia -- someone who in most other scenarios would be thought of as White -- for the Asian label?

Another example would be Haitians. They have the dark skin that, at first glance, would make most people assume they were Black; usually, however, people mean Black to say "was born on the African continent or descended from someone who was born there," and Haitians don't fit that description, at least not directly.

For that matter, what would someone from Egypt be? Egypt, much to the surprise of many, is part of Africa, but is still considered part of the Middle East, which puts them in the same predicament as our Arab friends from the previous paragraph.

The Spanish, too. They certainly can't fall under the Hispanic/Latino category because Hispanics are -- for the most part -- a Spaniard/Native mix ("mestizos", if you will), but their olive skin and dark hair is not what most people think of when the word "White" comes to mind. Same goes for the Portuguese and those of us from southern Italy.

With all that said, I conclude that whoever decided to coin these racial terms -- White, Black, Hispanic/Latino, and Asian/Pacific Islander -- must've been seriously fucked up. How else explain the failure to account for a huge portion of the population?

Then again, I suppose whoever has this sort of dilemma when taking a standardized test could just fill in the "Other" bubble.

In other news, MSG is my friend. I had an entire plate of chicken fingers and an egg roll (complete with sweet and sour sauce) from Panda Palace for lunch, and it was delicious.

[ music | Maroon Five, "Secret" ]

Oh, Bowfly, where would I be without you? I wouldn't know the meaning of the word "euphemism", that's for sure.

All Russian gymnastics-school massacres aside, today was a good day. Mark came over and we watched Once Upon a Time In Mexico -- and by "watched" I mean "chatted the whole way through and then gave up because we didn't follow the plot". We were both really hungry so we had some pizza. Cece was at the table with us and the two of them talked about my tendency to tell ridiculous stories (I'm telling you, man, I'm Irish. My dad's name before he came to America was O'Flores.).

Then we did some walking, first toward the martial-arts place, which is always closed whenever I want to find stuff out; then to Medford Square, where we had ice cream and saw Matt Ricci (he's not racist). Among other things, I told Mark about my string of bad relationships and he told me about his life thus far as a ladies' man -- I'm telling you, guys, I'm the luckiest girl in the world right now :P -- and then we went back to my house for some Bushisms. He broke the Simon and Garfunkel mix I gave him, and we read from the Bushism book and this birthday book I got at a yard sale. According to the book he has no tolerance for authority figures, and I'm scatter-brained and an emotional wreck. Go figure.

this is Mark pimping my Bushisms book. )

Six o'clock came and we headed to the bus stop, made plans for an upcoming Davis Square trip, and said our goodbyes. Woot, man, woot.

[ music | Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, "El Matador" ]

No Davis, which was disappointing, but life goes on.

I don't know what it is about the Red Sox that make every problem I have go away for 4-5 hours, but they do. Only when I see them at Fenway though, because on TV they're dead boring.

But yeah, Fenway last night with Jorge, Jorgie, and Thomas. We drove in there at about 5, were quite expectedly stuck in traffic, and managed to find a parking space around BU. I didn't count the scalpers on our way toward the park, but I did finally get one of those comic-book tracts that all the religious fanatics pass out :D Yes, I'm a weirdo.

Oh, and guys, I want this for the next major holiday.

But the game was good. Thomas and I managed to keep Jorge from spending ridiculous sums of money on us, which was a first, and we saw a boatload of people get hit by foul balls -- including this one cameraman on the first base line, who was especially funny because he waved his arm around for ten minutes after he got hit by the foul. At one point, when someone in the stands was hit, David Ortiz came out waving a bat and going, "Hello? Are you okay?" in a mocking, sarcastic sort of way. Oh, Papi Chulo, I love you.

We left before "Sweet Caroline", which bummed me out somewhat, but Thomas made up for it by chasing me around with his empty water bottle. I almost ran into a flock of college kids (!) trying to dodge his blows. Later, in the car, I told him to start waving to the people next to us, which he did. There were many smiles from our fellow motorists when they saw this little kid with his hand out a window. Then, when I tried it, people just looked at me funny. Go figure.

All right, house-cleaning and AP History time. Today I think we're going to Jorge and Maria's house for dinner. W0rd.

I hope Mike and Eric are in a class with me this year. Algebra was killer with the two of them around. "If Aunt Petunia were president, we wouldn't be at war right now." Oh, man.

Yesterday was all right -- Ashley called me at around 12:30 but I was in the middle of AP homework and Chinese food (delicious, by the way) so I didn't meet up with them till about 4. When I got to her house she showed me her fireproof suit! Awesome. Kyle was there with her, and I was promised a Marybeth but she left right before I came. *shakes fist* CJ stopped by later on, and we had a right party -- if by "party" I mean watching the VMAs and eating Ellio's pizza. Hah. But I got to see Kanye perform; it was the single greatest moment of my life. Well, not quite, but it's up there. Imagine what I'd be like had I gone to the Kanye/Usher show on the 22nd.

Davis tomorrow. Two Davises, actually -- one's in Somerville and the other's a big tall kid in North Mef apparently not happening for me because Jorge's taking me and Thomas to the Sox game. Still cool.
